The 12 Rods post got me thinking about albums that never clicked with a wider audience, but were phenomenal all the same. Autumnland by Built Like Alaska is one of those albums. BLA is a band from Central California (Escalon/Oakdale to be exact) whose drummer, David Burtch, is the kid brother of Grandaddy drummer Aaron Burtch. Neil Jackson, the bands songwriter, bears a distinct Lytle/Grandaddy influence, but the band definitely has a sound of their own.
I've posted Autumnland in dreaded mp3 in hopes that if you like it, you might want to buy the album. It's only five bucks, and Future Farmers is a record label that is fair to its stable of artists. That being said, Autumnland is an exceptional album, and I hope that this post will garner some needed sheckels for the band.
