God, I FUCKING LOVE this album. Love it...
Heres's my theory:
Brian Wilson is a sorceror, and he magically instills his musical wisdom into regular human beings, giving them super-human abilities that go beyond the normal scope of....uhhhhhhh...musicalness (?). Split Personalities is a perfect example of such Pet-Soundsian (?) sorcery. 12 Rod's was a band from Minneapolis by way of Ohio that languished on V2 Records for a couple of years, then quickly faded into musical oblivion. But before they disappeared, the Olcott brothers made one of the most amazing albums I've ever heard. The problem is that not many other people got a chance to hear it.
So fast-forward 12 years later, and Split Personalities comes back to life for you to (possibly) check out. It's geeky, proggie, melodic, kinda/sorta gay (?), blessed by Brian Wilson, and best yet...it's 12 Rods! Did I say that I loved this album? Cuz I do.
