The Wipers- Box Set: Is This Real? (1980), Youth of America (1981) and Over the Edge (1983)- EAC CD Rip (FLAC)
The Wipers don't wear flat-tops. George Jones does. Connect the dots.
From the liner notes:
Recorded in 1980 "Is This Real?" was The Wipers first album. This record was first recorded in the same fashion as our first 7 inch "Better Off Dead", on my trusty 4 track recorder in our rehearsal space. I was later talked into a distribution agreement with a record store owner who insisted we re-record the album at a professional 16 track studio. You an tell by the added bonus tracks that even though the recording quality was not perfecct the raw power of the original 4 track sessions have a feel of their own. This original recording was done purely live with no over-dubs and better captured our approoach in 1980. Around 1981 "Park Ave. Records" added the 4 songs off the "Alien Boy" 7 inch to the reissue of "Is This Real?". This came as a shock since these songs were only a demo. We have restored "Is This Real?" back to its original song order. We included the "Alien Boy" tracks where they belong, after the LP, and as bonus tracks.

From the liner notes:
Recorded in late 1980 "Youth of America" was a completely different approach from "Is This Real?" in both attitude and recording techniques. Being diappointed by the restrictions of working in a pro studei I decided to record and engineer all our future LP's myself. Prior restrictions were unleashed on "YOA" with many radical recording techniques I used to bring some frantic realism into the LP's title cut. The trend in punk in 1980 was to have very short songs. I took this opportunity to record two extremely long songs with the title song hitting the 10 minute mark. For the period of time and trend of the day this was considered very un-cool in the USA till about 1986. YOA had as many different cover arts as it's reissues. Its original cartoon cover and back jacket picture of my dog "Sid" and myself were rejected by P/A records as being too wimpy which they replaced with a plain b/w cover. The cartoon cover was issued by P/A in 1988 in Europe without our knowledge and without the artist credits who was "Steve Doughton".

From the liner notes:
Recorded in 1982 "Over the Edge" was recorded in a house rented in SW Portland with rented equipment. This LP used an 8 track tape machine which was a step back from the 16 track recordings of our first 2 LP's. This added a raw edge that worked well with the rebellious socially political theme this LP has. Unlike our first 2 LP's "Over the Edge" was accepted very quickly on its release where our first 2 LP's took about 6 years to be recognized. This was mostly due to the title track and the song "Romeo". "Romeo" was first released in 1981 on a 7 inch and was recorded during the "YOA" sessions. "Romeo" received decent airplay in the USA and was what brought our earlier LP's into view years later. "Romeo" was recorded with a 4 piece horn section, but the horns were mixed back behind the guitar to fit into the sonics of the rest of the LP. There is a bonus track of "Romeo" with the horns mixed up and with a different vocal track. We had to drop many songs we had planned to record during this period. A few samples are included as bonus tracks.
