Marva Whitney is a bright young star and is destined to be a big star. This, her second album is aptly titled "It's My Thing", because soul is Marva's thing! Marva was in college in Kansas City singing in local clubs, churches, and other social gatherings when she went to see Mr. James Brown. Mr. Brown talked to her, liked her attitude and gave her an audition with his band. The rest is history...

Marva joined the James Brown show as featured girl vocalist replacing Vickie Anderson. She has appeared with the goup in concert ever since, and on the tips to Vietnam, Africa and other parts of the world; in talking about Marva Whitney and her talents one has to mention her power; her driving style; her dedication to the strong melody line. Blessed with an exceptional range, she blends perfectly with James brown on duets; they team together on Sunny in this album. One can argue that the 1962 Apollo Theatre James Brown show is better than the James Brown 1971 Olympia with the original J.B.'s that happened to have included Bootsy Collins on bass and Chicken Gunnels on trumpet. One can argue that, but they'd more than likely have to concede that the Olympia show is the funkier of the two. That's all I'm saying. Haters hate. Enjoy the show!

Recorded in 1971 at L'Olympia in Paris, France, LOVE POWER PEACE is the only live recording with the original JB's backing James Brown. The hardest working man in show business and his original band go full force with jams that capture the genuine sweat of the Godfather Of Soul shuffling across the stage in a gold lame fury, flanked by half- naked dancers. With original JB's such as MC/organist Bobby Byrd and bassist Bootsy Collins, you can hear the superior musicianship that is required to keep time with James Brown's frenetic pace. Drummers Jabo Starks and Tiger Martin would play both kits at once to get the groove on, making abrupt tempo changes, as in the transition between "Brother Rapp" and "Aint It Funky Now," illustrating both their talent and the tightness of their groove.
