Berghain 02 is Berghain resident Marcel Dettmann's first commercially available mix and draws inspiration from his residency at the famous Berlin club. Dettmann’s intention on the mix was to mix modern cuts with some of the personal classics he’s relied on over the years, including Strand’s ‘Zephyr’ (Frictional, 1996), Kevin Saunderson’s ‘Just Want Another Chance’ (KMS, 1988) and Risqué Rythum Team’s ‘The Jacking Zone’ (Chicago Connection, 1986). But don’t expect nostalgia: Berghain 02 is billed as a lively mix that paints a very strong picture of what techno is in 2008. Think pure, and purist, techno with a nod to the old school.
Dettmann’s CD is the second techno volume in Ostgut Ton’s mix series, following on from André Galluzzi’s Berghain 01.
